Tabu veneers
Tabu s.p.a., based in Italy, is the world's largest manufacturer of coloured natural veneers. The company has been in business since 1927.
Tabu's extensive collection allows for a wide range of interior and surface solutions. Tabu stocks a large selection of rare natural tiles. The production also includes industrially manufactured veneers, solid woods and wall and floor surfaces.
Tabu has been FSC-certified since 2004, when they started producing the Green range of dyed veneers. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) regulations emphasise the proper sourcing of wood from responsibly managed forests.
Lore has been the exclusive representative of Tabu in Finland and Estonia since 2002.
PRODUCT GROUPS
Natural veneers and curly-grained woods
Tabu stocks a wide range of beams, veneers and solid wood. As a factory order we can supply almost any type of wood according to the customer's wishes.

Through-dyed natural veneers and curly-grained woods
TABU stocks more than 300 colour and wood species options. This ensures fast delivery and allows for small, individual quantities of veneer to be supplied. The customer is free to choose the colour when ordering a minimum quantity (600m²).
Tabu has developed a wood staining process that smoothes out colour differences between different raw wood species, and offers aesthetic and production benefits and opportunities.
The staining process removes components from TABU veneers that are toxic in some wood grades. The ingredients are replaced by dyes that make the veneers non-toxic and resistant to woodworm attack. Mechanical, chemical and physical properties are unchanged. The benefits of the operation include:
- the possibility of avoiding spottiness in the veneer in some cases or of smoothing out large differences in colour between dark and light woods
- possibility of levelling the colour differences between veneers cut from different logs
- possibility of combining different coloured veneers for the frame structure (inlays, colour combinations)
- facilitates machining and use by eliminating problems caused by spotting
- the possibility of using the full colour gamut
- allows reproducibility of veneer colour

Multi-laminated wood veneers and solid wood
The Newood range includes so-called technical veneers. The Caleidolegno range includes technical fantasy veneers and inlays.
The English name, "new wood", refers to the manufacturing of the product. A special process is used to glue together several cut and pre-dyed slices to form a log from which the final slices are cut. The standard sizes are 310×60-70 cm or 250×60-70 cm and the standard thickness is 0.6 mm.
Because Newood has almost constant veneer sizes, it is possible to optimise wastage and often use a wider oval than is possible with real natural veneers.
Industrially produced veneers are more porous than real natural veneers and therefore require more processing agents than normal. We recommend testing the veneer, e.g. on a sample piece, before starting production to find the right end result.
The letters in the Newood code series denote the causal pattern as follows:
- R = direct causes
- M = slightly undulating causes
- A = 1 crown
- B = 2 crowns
Newood's manufacturing process follows strict, environmentally friendly principles and uses fast-growing, reforested wood species as raw materials.

Seamless veneer sheets
It is possible to have the veneer sheets ready to be glued to the customer in the factory. The customer has to choose the type of wood and indicate how they want the veneers to be seamed and in what size. The factory will provide a quotation for the service on a project-by-project basis.

Parquet flooring
Technically superior, veneer flooring can be installed either by traditional gluing or as a floating floor. Caleidosystem parquet is available in two different thicknesses of veneer, with mdf as the frame structure.
Tabu's Tailor Made parquet collection offers more possibilities to choose exactly the type of parquet you want. The wood species chosen for the collection are lath, walnut and eucalyptus, available in a total of 16 different shades with two different finishes and four different finishes. It is thus possible to combine different variables according to your wishes or project requirements to achieve a tailor-made result.
Tabu's slim and narrow Slim 35 mm collection has 15 different shades divided into three groups: cream, brown and grey.

Edgebands and veneer laminates
Edging strips
All Tabu veneers are also available on rolls in different lengths and with different backings to suit different applications.
Veneer laminates
TABU has the capability to produce IMO MED quality and F1 fire rated 1 mm thick veneer laminates (HPL TABU F1), mainly for the marine industry, with three different surface treatment options: matt, semi-matte or gloss.
